Pro tools mix window second monitor

Protools 8 - second monitor - mix screen. I've recently started using a second computer monitor with Protools 8. I can drag the transport screen over to the second monitor but I cann't drag the mix screen over? My Studio. One good large monitor I find works a treat with Pro Tools. Most of the operations that you use the mix window for can be done from the track window so ther is little point IMO for having both displayed at one.

Obviously YMMV. Regards Roland. If you want to set up similar functionality in Pro Tools, there are two ways you can do so. Either you can create separate Aux tracks for each external source you want to bring in, or create a single Aux and use the input routing to select the appropriate external source as needed. The channel faders on the external source Aux tracks become monitor level trims, allowing you to adjust the external monitor source level to match the main mix if needs be.

Again, it is really important to clearly label all the busses, inputs and outputs. This lets me select which external source I want to listen to from the Ext Mon 1 track input selector. Alternatively, I could create four Aux tracks, one for each of these inputs, and use the solo or mute buttons to determine which external sources I want to listen to. Another common master-section feature is speaker switching, allowing you to hear your mixes on more than one set of speakers.

We have already set up a dedicated monitor output, so we could do one of two things. One option would be to duplicate this existing Monitor Output Aux and re-route the duplicate to another pair of outputs on your interface, to which the secondary speakers are connected.

The alternative is to retain a single Monitor Output track, but use its input selector to change the output routing as required whenever we want to switch speakers. The first option also lets you use the Monitor Output track faders to trim the levels to the different speakers so that volume matches when you switch between them.

Another function you often find in mixers and hardware monitor controllers is talkback. This makes provision for a mic permanently set up in the control room to be routed to different outputs, including headphone feeds. The mic would usually be muted by default, and only unmuted when the engineer or producer needs to talk to the musicians.

Like celticrogues said, shrink your mix window and then try to drag it over. Then you can stretch it back to fit your second monitor. Yeah- two here as well. I usually have the Edit window on my primary, and Mix Window on my secondary; but, I can move them both around freely between the two, etc. I have never found a window I could not drag anywhere within the app window. As has been suggested- make sure it isnt maximized. Sometimes when I'm trying to drag one window to the other screen it won't go, so I have to back up a little bit and actually get a "running start" with the cursor to get the window to "jump" to the next screen.

Weird, huh? You have to drag that accross both screens, then you can move the mix window over to the second screen. Otherwise if the background screen is only stretched over the first screen, you wont be able to move anything to the second one. Hope that makes sense. It was summin that I couldnt suss out either because Ive always been a Mac user and at work they run PT on a Windows rig. I had to get some one to show me. Felt like such a dumb ass too but I had no idea.

People takin the piss out of me cos they know Im such a computer nerd. Im like "There is no background window on the Mac version. PT User.
